Prefab Power: Engineering IL4 Cooling Towers for Critical Infrastructure

Prefab Power: Engineering IL4 Cooling Towers for Critical Infrastructure

Back

Plug-n-play HVAC, on a massive scale.

At NEXTDC S3 Sydney, KUSCH was proud to support Multiplex and A.G. Coombs with the structural design of the cooling tower system, including the prefabricated modules that enabled rapid and precise installation.

Standing nearly 9 metres tall and weighing close to 15 tons each, the 54 cooling towers were engineered to meet Importance Level 4 (IL4) seismic and wind load requirements, ensuring resilience for this mission-critical data centre.

Prefabricated for Performance

To meet tight deadlines and improve safety, the towers were delivered in three pieces, assembled on-site in a designated area, and lifted onto pre-installed mechanical skids for final connection. The entire process was planned through multiple design and safety workshops to streamline the build without compromising compliance.

The use of Roborigger technology allowed the team to lift and place the towers safely and precisely, with no compromise to schedule or safety.

Today, 26 towers are operational, with the rest currently in the commissioning phase—helping regulate temperature and ensure reliable performance of data centre equipment.

This project is a testament to the power of prefabrication, engineering coordination, and collaborative delivery.

Keeping it cool, smart and efficient—just how we like it.
