Scope: Addition of a 3rd storey over the top of an existing timber and blockwork lodge in Falls Creek
Design Achievements: To minimise impact on the existing building, the 3rd storey is supported on steel portal frames spanning over the existing building, acting as an ‘exoskeleton’.
Design Considerations:
- Working on a sloping site around an existing building
- Buildability and accessibility during construction
Project Features: Large 6m high, 16m single span portal frames are supported on deep bored piers to support the additional level.
